About Tyler
Music Producer & Arranger
As a music producer and arranger, Tyler Castleton’s credits include award-winning albums for LDS artists Michael McLean, Jericho Road, Hilary Weeks, Kenneth Cope, Jenny Phillips, Cherie Call, Jenny Oaks Baker, Providence, and George Dyer, as well as many of the recent “Especially for Youth” music albums for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Tyler is also the co-creator and co-producer of the best-selling women’s albums “Women of Destiny.” Tyler’s songs can be heard on over a hundred LDS and Christian recordings by artists including Grammy Award-winner Gladys Knight, Marie Osmond, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Julie de Azevedo, Eclipse, The Jets, and country music superstar Martina McBride. Over the years, Tyler toured the country as a Music Director and keyboardist for numerous music artists and groups including Kurt Bestor, Kenneth Cope, Jericho Road, Cherie Call and Smith 4.
Film & TV Composer
As a film and TV composer, Tyler has written music for National Geographic, Animal Planet, ABC Monday Night Movie, NuSkin International, PBS Television, WordPerfect, the Sundance Film Festival, Yellowstone National Park, and BYU-TV. He also created musical scores and arrangements for the BYU Young Ambassadors, BYU-Idaho, Tuacahn Theater and Provo’s Freedom Festival. Tyler has been honored by the Faith Centered Music Association numerous times, including Pearl Awards for Producer and Songwriter of the Year.
2002 Olympic Games
Tyler was the Music Producer and a composer for the LDS Church’s 2002 Olympic Spectacular, “Light of the World,” which was seen in the Church’s Conference Center during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. He was also the Production Manager of the Church’s 1997 Pioneer Sesquicentennial Spectacular at BYU’s Cougar Stadium in Provo, Utah, which was seen by audiences around the world. Tyler continues to produce concert events and tours for various clients, including BYU’s Women’s Conference, Jenny Phillips and Michael McLean’s The Forgotten Carols. These productions have taken him to Denmark, Sweden and Germany, as well as various locations throughout the United States.
Tyler served as Director of A&R and head of music for Deseret Book and its Shadow Mountain Records label from 2000 – 2005, and again from 2008 – 2009, where he was involved in developing and launching the careers of numerous best-selling artists including Jericho Road, Providence, Katherine Nelson, and LOL. In that capacity he was also instrumental in the Grammy Award-winning album “One Voice” from Gladys Knight and the Saints Unified Voices, as well as Marie Osmond’s first-ever inspirational album, which he executive-produced.
Growing up in a family of seven boys in the small town of Preston, ID, Tyler began his musical training at the age of 7. After graduating from Preston High School in 1988, Tyler served an LDS mission in St. Louis, Missouri. A product of Brigham Young University’s Music Media program, Tyler studied songwriting, film scoring and music business, and was named the Outstanding Media Music student in 1994. Tyler spent most of his college years working as the Production & Stage Manager for BYU’s world renowned Young Ambassadors. His numerous international tours with the group took him to Russia and the Baltic States, Finland, Eastern Europe, Spain, North Africa including Morocco and Tunisia, China, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia.
